Mike Maguire, Executive Director

Mike Maguire became the Executive Director of the Lifesaving Society in 2016.

Mike has acted as the Nova Scotia Branch’s Program Manager since September 2013. He has organized the Swim to Survive Program throughout Nova Scotia, and has been the Assistant Director of the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service over the past six years. Mike has nearly twenty years’ experience in Aquatics and Recreation Management, and has represented Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada on several national Lifesaving Society committees over the past few years, most notably the National Lifeguard Revisions committee and the Leadership Program Revisions committee. He has achieved a Master’s Degree in

Leisure Studies, and Recreation and Management undergraduate degrees, all at Dalhousie University where his thesis involved an in depth exploration of the Swim to Survive program.

Paul D'Eon, Special Projects Director

deon When the province announced the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS) contract had been awarded to the Lifesaving Society on March 8, 1999, Paul D'Eon was hired shortly thereafter to manage the program. Paul began working with the NSLS as a lifeguard in 1975 when the program was administered by the Canadian Red Cross. In 1984 he was promoted to the Coordinator role, and has been involved with the NSLS ever since.

Paul holds a B.A. in Physical Education and Recreation from Acadia University and has been involved as a volunteer with many recreation and sports related organizations, most recently as President of Recreation Nova Scotia and on the national steering committee for the Sport of Lifesaving. Paul's role with the Society is to manage the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service contract in addition to other responsibilities.

Diane Nunes, First Aid Coordinator

Diane joined the Lifesaving Society in September 2011, with 7 years experience as an Instructor for First Aid, as well as a First Responder. She has many years of instructing a variety of fields as well as experiences in management, customer service, organizational skills, and event planning and coordinating. In 2013 she completed her Instructor Trainer with the Lifesaving Society.

She now provides her services as First Aid Coordinator for Lifesaving Society, including organizing courses, instructors and handling all the logistics of First Aid. Keeping instructors up to date and providing more training when necessary to make our programs the best they can be is her goal.

Hylda Galley, Member Services Manager

hylda Hylda Galley joined the Lifesaving Society in October 2007, after 7 years experience as Office Manager for a small business. She has had extensive customer service experience, both in her previous position, and in the retail banking industry.

She provides administrative support for the Executive Director, as well as conducting the day-to-day business operations of the office.
