What is Personal Information?
Personal information is information about an identifiable individual. It includes your full name, address, telephone number, date of birth, email address, and any other information that identifies who you are or would allow someone to contact you. Personal information only becomes known to the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service (NSLS) when you provide it to us.
Why do we ask you for your Personal Information?
If you would like to work for us or participate in an athletic event that we are organizing, administering or sanctioning, The NSLS will typically require personal information as it relates to running athletic events or in the course the job application process. If employed by the NSLS, some parts of your personal information, including your name and contact information, will be shared with co-workers for the purpose of allowing them to contact you in the event they need to arrange a shift substitute. We may also use this information to contact you after you have finished your work term to become involved as an alumni of the organization.
Employment Opportunities
The NSLS offers employment opportunities through application from our website, in person, by mail or by fax. Prospective applicants may obtain information on the jobs we have available and the application process from our website. All applicants will be asked to complete an application form, which asks for several pieces of personal information such as your name, telephone number, address, and email address. This information may be used to contact you and to review your application in consideration for employment. If you are offered and accept a job with the NSLS, prior to commencement of employment, we will ask you to provide additional information including your social insurance number, date of birth, personal tax credits and bank deposit information in order to ensure proper payments and remittances are made in accordance with tax legislation. In some cases, in order to comply with such legislation, your personal information may be disclosed to the Canada Revenue Agency. In accordance with law, the NSLS will retain your personal information for a period of at least 7 years.
Safeguarding your Personal Information
The NSLS will not share your personal information with any person or organization under any circumstance other than as specified above unless we receive your written authorization. All personal information is kept in hard copy files under lock at the NSLS office.

Providing us with your personal information is your choice. Our policy is not to collect personally identifiable information about individuals except when specifically provided to us on a voluntary basis, such as when requesting information or when purchasing merchandise.
We do not share or disclose our visitors' e-mail addresses, nor any other information submitted by a user when accessing our web site, with any third parties.
Our web servers automatically recognize your domain name when you visit our site, and this information may be aggregated and used to measure statistics regarding the use of our site, such as the number of visitors, average time spent on the site, pages viewed and similar information. Likewise, this information is not distributed to or shared with third parties.
We may use the information we gather for our own internal purposes. Our goal in collecting personal information online is to continually improve the content of our web site and to offer consumers with products that best meet their preferences and desires.
